A Little Birdie told Me…….

I’m was thrilled to see that as of January 12th, 2009, the Loblaw companies Ltd announced they were no longer going to be providing complimentary plastic shopping bags to their Toronto stores!!!  And hears the best news….they’re charging 0.05 a plastic bag!!!  I was super excited when I heared as of “EARTH DAY” April 22nd our local Atlantic Super Stores will be doing the same thing!!!  Brilliant!!!!  Their data indicates that Loblaw stores that have been charging a nominal fee for plastic bags distribute almost 55 per cent fewer bags per $1000 sales than those stores that provide plastic shopping bags for free.  And that the majority of the proceeds from the sale of plastic shopping bags will be used to cover the cost of the Loblaw plastic bag reduction program. Partial proceeds from Loblaw corporate stores will be donated to environmental charities/groups.  YAY!!!  Let’s all choose a greener way to shop!!!!
